Horrible Endings! (Day 8 of 8)

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 Twitter campaign goes horribly wrong. Microsoft launched a Twitter advertising campaign aimed at getting Android users to complain about their devices. However, the company's ploy flopped.

windows-8-dropcap
The Internet can be a breeding ground for drama, especially when it comes to social media. Microsoft seems to have learned that the hard way, as its recent Twitter campaign against Android hopelessly backfired. The long-time PC software maker launched a campaign asking Android users to share their malware horror stories via Twitter with the hashtag #DroidRage. In exchange, these tweeters would get the chance to win a new Windows Phone handset.
Google’s Director of Open Source, Chris DiBona, fired back at Microsoft with the following:
“Wanna see what Flop Sweat looks like? Follow: @WindowsPhone”
Other Twitter users had this to say when it comes to Windows Phone vs. Android.
“Microsoft slamming Android with #DroidRage for malware issues? Have you seen your desktop?” user Apurva Chaudhary tweeted.

Slow Sailing (Day 5 of 8)

As we predicted Windows 8 with its awful Windows Phone tiled interface is destroying Windows sales. Smart Phone buyers have already rejected this interface for over two years and now Windows customers are doing the same. Windows 8 is off to a very slow start, says NPD report. Windows device sales in the U.S. fell 21 percent in the four weeks since Windows 8 debuted, versus sales from a year ago

Only Surface Deep (Day 4 of 8)

Micorsoft touts its Surface tablet as an iPad killer but this is very wishful thinking. It uses the failed tiled interface from Windows Phone. This interface has failed in the market for over two years. Hopefully built in 3G or LTE is not something you looking for because Surface lacks that along with other key features. Like a beautiful woman that is shallow, vain and ungrateful. Look below the Surface to see a product you really don't want.

Reports are starting to come in on the poor build quality of the Surface tablet. The ring of death Deja Vu springs to mind as the rushed hardware is thrown on the market with little to no product testing or reliable Q&A before shipping to customers. Is it a type of "Red Ring of Death" all over again?

Broken Obsolete Windows (Day 3 of 8)

As the linked article below shows Micorsoft's failure goes beyond Windows 8. It has been building up for some time. They saved themselves with the release of Windows 7 from the multi-billion dollar mistake that was Windows Vista. But now with Windows 8 they are back to old tricks and habits with a horrible Tiled interface GUI to boot! Our resolve is absolute and clear. Aladdin 4D 6.0 will never be sold for Windows.

Microsoft Has Failed

Windows 8 Firings Begin (Day 2 of 8)

Steven Sinofsky, the Microsoft senior executive who's idea it was to make regular consumer Windows look like the failed Windows Phone, has already been given his walking papers. He was a powerful executive that helped lead the MS Office devision to great sales. He even helped save the Windows brand by getting rid of Vista and introducing Windows 7, which has sold well the three years it has been on the market. But his idea to force regular Windows customers to adopt the Windows Phone tiled interface has cost him his job say some sources. Just like smart phone customers, Windows customers have no interest in the weird, clunky tiled interface on Windows Phone & Windows 8.

The head of Valve says his company is working to develop for Linux, calling Microsoft's Windows 8 a "catastrophe" that will lead product manufacturers to abandon the platform. Windows 8 is a version you best avoid. Windows sales will continue to slow as the months and years pass. Windows 8 will accelerate that decline. We kind of felt this coming long ago in 2007 when we made the decision to never sell Aladdin 4D for Windows.

8 is Enough! (Day 1 of 8)

We promised an "October Surprise"and even though Halloween is over we will deliver just in time. It's not what you are expecting, no Aladdin4D 6.0 news unfortunately. But you already knew that right? Just before the end of October Windows 8 launched for phones, tablets and personal computers. So for the next 8 days (not in a row) we will be discussing why you should not upgrade or buy Windows 8 on any device. Windows 7 does the job well so we are not sure why this Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde OS even came out.

It attempts to be a kind of jack of all trades and succeeds at none. It uses a tiled interface that has failed on Windows Phone for over two years. Now since that has been a complete failure Microsoft has chosen to force their Windows customers to adopt the same interface that was already rejected on phones. It's a risky venture and uses the Windows customer base as pawns to extend Microsoft's Apple envy. Maybe they don't have a choice. Apple is worth over half a trillion dollars now and the iPhone alone is a bigger than Microsofts entire business. We knew in 2007 when we took over the destiny of Aladdin4D that Windows would slowly fade into obscurity. That's why we promised to never sell Aladdin4D for Windows way back then. What we did not know is Microsoft's greed would make them force customers to leave Windows in droves. That is what Windows 8 is doing to their market. If you currently use Windows 7 and are happy please continue. That OS like XP works pretty well and does the job if you need to run Windows hardware/software. Please don't join the Win8 experiment/horror story. That devil coming out of a small software box will harm customers for years to come. Windows reimagined into your worst nightmare.

October Surprise!

While it's not 100% Aladdin4D related we do have an "October Surprise" coming up before this month ends. Stay tuned if your interested.

Lamp

Therefore, be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge to yourselves. Hold fast to Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height.

Platforms & Future Choices

To help expedite the release of Aladdin 4D 6.0 we are limiting the platforms it supports. We know this will come as bad news to many of its fans on the Amiga but the long release cycle is doing no one any favors. For version 6.0 Aladdin 4D will only be shipping on Mac OS X, iPad and Linux. We are still in the evaluation stage of what platforms version 7.0 will support. It will most defiantly be more than what version 6.0 will offer. Don’t forget to contact us and tell us what platform you want Aladdin 4D to ship on. Your feedback and interest will influence the future direction of the software so don't forget to contact us via the link below. Before the DiscreetFX acquisition Aladdin 4D sold over 18,000 units. We are excited to have it reach those numbers again in the years to come.

Diversification Breeds Innovation.

A few of the platforms that Aladdin 4D currently runs on were born from the ashes of the Amiga platform. MorphOS, AmigaOS 4.x, AROS, Amiga Virtual Machine (Amiga Forever), and even cool FPGA solutions like FPGA Arcade and Minimig.  There has been talk on internet forums that these alternative modern platforms should some how reunite into one Amiga platform. This would actually be a bad thing and will not happen. Customers like freedom of choice and variety in their food and their computer tech.

We have already been there in the past anyway. Commodore Business Machines was greedy with the Amiga technology and did not share or license it. So we have today's computer market made in the Amiga's image but not based on the Amiga directly. If Commodore had licensed the chipset and OS then it would have become more mainstream.

The millions of Amiga sales Commodore did achieve is nothing compared to the exponential sales that compeating similar modern Amiga clones can get to. It just takes time and some marketing in today's very busy and diverse computer landscape. Apple's 100 billion in the bank and over 500 billion in market capitalization proves computer companies can return from near death and go on to achieve record sales plus exciting innovation.

After Death, Comes Rebirth

After the death of Commodore in 1994 the Amiga died with it in a way. Millions of sales died, major developer support died,  a steady release of new applications and games died. Even sales of the legendary Video Toaster in the USA eventually died off for the Amiga. But the Video Toaster was reborn and thrives today in a wide range of portable editing / live video production products called TriCaster. So too was the Amiga reborn as Amiga Virtual Machine (Amiga Forever), Amiga OS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS & FPGA based solutions.

The spirt outlived the silicon. Maybe one day one or more of these solutions will again achieve millions of sales for Amiga fans. So too will Aladdin 4D be reborn. From the ashes of the Amiga platform it will reemerge as a platform independent beginners 3D animation/rendering package. Reincarnation and enlightenment just takes time. The ghost in the machine does not have instantaneous programming skills. Humans must do that and it's not instantaneous, it takes some time to get it right.
