Open Video Toaster Lives again Virtually on Amiga Forever from CLOANTO!

Virtual Toast tastes delicious, now it’s easier than ever to run the Amiga Video Toaster in an Amiga Virtual Machine. Stefano demonstrates in the video linked below how to get it running on the Amiga Forever Virtual Machine. It will also work in a similar way with WinUAE & FS-UAE. Aladdin4D of course also works on Amiga Virtual Machines as well.

Lightwave 3D is Production Proven

Aladdin4D is okay if your goal is rendering it retro. But please remember that if the goal is to have the latest in 3D animation quality there really is only one choice, Lightwave 3D ®  from NewTek.

Fresh. Fast. Easy. Proven.

NewTek LightWave 3D® makes it possible for anyone to become a 3D artist and animator. The software is affordable, complete, easy to learn and use and well established as one of the leading 3D systems on the market for producing beautiful photo-real renders as well as incredible anime. This complete out-of-the-box 3D animation solution now offers real-time collaborative 3D interactivity through a bridge to Unreal Engine. LightWave 3D® enters the Real-Time Age for interchange with this workflow link between the Unreal Engine and LightWave 3D®, focusing on LightWave driving Unreal changes iteratively. Multiple LightWave seats are able to connect to the same Unreal Editor simultaneously to enable real-time collaboration between artists. The bridge uses NewTek's proven NDI® network discovery mechanism for easy automatic configuration, and can be limited to single project use in Unreal, or installed as a general plugin for use in all Unreal projects. Just look at the beautifully rendered images in the LightWave Gallery.

Amiga Is Different

Aladdin4D began it’s life on the Amiga platform. Today many seem to be concerned about how small that market is compared to others. Don't compare, don’t worry about Windows, Mac or BillyBob OS. The Amiga is different. The goal is to make great software and great hardware for our unique community. And healthy competition in our smaller market is great. There are many types of Amigas today, diversity is grand. Vampires, Amiga Forever Virtual Machines, WinUAE, FS-UAE, FPGA Arcade, Armiga. AmigaOS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS, X1000, X5000, Tabor, MiSTer, Re-Amiga 1200,  ReAmiga 3000, Classic Amigas and any others we may have missed.

Hopefully everyone will focus on building the best hardware and software products for the future. And competition in the hardware/software space breeds innovation. This community is like a big family. Uncle Joe might be a royal pain during the holidays but we all have a common origin, The Los Gatos Amiga Team.

The Cloud Is Rendertastic!

Gone are the days of rendering for hours, weeks or months to complete your animation. Now you can rent time and render to the Cloud. Hundreds, thousands, or hundreds of thousands of Linux computers in a Cluster complete your 3D Project in record time. Powerful GPUs like the NVIDIA VOLTA are installed in Data Centers for all Big Data needs including 3D Rendering. At least 21 Billion Transistors, Deep Core Architecture for Machine Learning, Ultimate Virtual Machines and/or Containerized OS'es. Think of the GPUs like Custom chips complimenting the host CPU(s). Hmmm, does that sound familiar? That's basically what the Amiga did many years ago at a much smaller scale. If Aladdin4D could somehow take advantage of this technology in the future that would be sweet.

Toasty Virtual Machines

An innovative developer found a few software workarounds to boot the Amiga Video Toaster GUI in an Amiga Virtual Machine without the Amiga Video Toaster hardware card. It's nice to finally see some progress on Open Video Toaster. Our Toaster was feeling alone and stagnant in the modern era without brilliant hobbyist coders to dig into one of the most interesting open source releases that happened early in the 21st Century. How does this relate to Aladdin4D you might ask? Aladdin4D 5.x renders directly to the Amiga Video Toasters Framebuffers and even saves 24 bit animations in the Flyers native broadcast quality video format. Not as innovative in todays world but a road down memory lane of how none-linear video editing and live switching used to be. Please visit the Open Video Toaster site and grab the binary to play with on your Amiga Virtual Machines. If you own a copy of Aladdin4D 5.x don't forget to render it retro in brilliant 24 bit color with Aladdin4D. Rub the Lamp, Render the Magic.

A Much Swifter Future?

Since coding on the macOS version of Aladdin4D has to be restarted from scratch anyway we are investigating migrating the C code to the Swift programming language to help future proof later versions. Swift is a lot more modern than C and is now surprisingly open source as well. A shocking move from Apple Inc that was unexpected. Of course recoding Aladdin4D completely in Swift would be a large undertaking and render the original source code from the OS X Mac version obsolete. It wasn't that exciting to look at anyway so no big loss there.  We would love to hear your feedback on this idea of course. The evaluation process is not complete.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 mini-review: The new people's champion annilates Titans

Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1070 is one hot as hell graphics card, delivering Titan X-level performance at a price real gamers, video editors and creative content producers can afford. The blowers on high-end GPU's are so big now that they may even be able dry your hair or hands if they are wet.  You’ll findthe a single HDMI 2.0b connection, a single dual-link DVI-D connector, and three full-sized DisplayPorts that are DP 1.2 certified, but ready for DP 1.3 and 1.4. That last tidbit means the card will be able to power 4K monitors running at 120Hz, 5K displays at 60Hz, and even if you think 4K & 5K are old news and passe maybe the fact that it supports 8K displays at 60Hz will excite you. Keep in mind you’ll need a pair of cables for that last scenario to work.

Lamps, Life & Tribulations

The Aladdin4D Blog started about  ten years ago with the acquisition of Aladdin4D and the hopes and dreams of renewing development of it. Like a long televised soap opera it's had its ups and downs over those years and things have happened that we could have never predicted. The inspiration to start the blog came from Martin's Minutes.

For those that don't know Martin's Minutes was another blog on the Internet before they were even called blogs that was from a 3D Animation companies founder that discussed a program called "Animation Master". It was fun and insightful to read and was also started by a company that got its beginning making Amiga 3D Animation software.

Like the Aladdin4D Blog, that site didn't always discuss just 3D software, it also covered topics about the world we live in and the deep thoughts of Martin Hash. It was a valuable insight into the brilliant mind of the creator of Hash Inc which is still around today.

If you get a chance stop by and check them out and don't forget to say we sent you.

Here's to Martin Hash, we salute you!

And Then The Lamp was Split in Two

In order to assist and accelerate the resurrection  of Aladdin4D it had to be split in two. One piece remained with DiscreetFX and the other piece is in the hands of A-Eon Technology Ltd. This allows two different companies to grow and expand the user base and mindshare of Aladdin4D. Double or more in brains, partners and idea men that unite with positive goals. This is the way of the lamp. This is the destiny of the lamp. Rub the Lamp, Render the Magic.

Rosetta Deja vu

One of the most exciting things Apple did when changing to Intel hardware in 2006 was running PowerPC Mac applications in OS X by using a technology called Rosetta. This made it easy for Mac lovers to not lose their investment in Mac software when they moved to Intel OS X machines. Sadly this great feature was removed in later versions of OS X. We got Deja Vu the other day when we saw that the fantastic Amiga Virtual Machine WinUAE was adding PowerPC emulation. Hopefully this is so that eventually customers can run purchased copies of AmigaOS 4.1 Classic on WinUAE (Amiga Forever) Intel machines. Increasing OS 4.1 sales or getting people interested in OS 4.1 is a good thing. Even if it runs slower than PowerPC hardware it gets people to play with the operating system and explore it. AmigaOS 4.1 is one of the planned operating systems that will be support by Aladdin4D 6.0. Aladdin4D 5.x runs lighting fast and is available today for WinUAE or the commercial version called Amiga Forever Premium Edition 2014. This exciting Virtual Machine is available from AmigaKit. AmigaKit also sells the boxed retail version of Aladdin4D 5.x.

The Blue Butterfly Soars like an Eagle Again: Public Release of MorphOS 3.6

The following news item is being publish to the Aladdin4D Blog because MorphOS currently runs Aladdin4D 5.x and will get a native version of Aladdin4D 6.0.

The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.6. Delivering one of the most requested features, this new version can now utilize the built-in Wi-Fi hardware in all Apple systems that feature Broadcom´s BCM43 chipset. In addition, MorphOS further extends its support of graphics chipsets to include AMD´s R400 series by adding compatibility with Radeon X800 PRO and FireGL X3 cards. Moreover, the latest version of MorphOS now enables laptop owners to define custom screen modes and provides default modes for increasingly common high resolution displays.

Improving interoperability and overall convenience, MorphOS 3.6 adds a new SMBFS filesystem handler with 64-bit I/O support for easy file sharing via network storage devices, a new VNC server to control your MorphOS systems remotely or even without a display, and a Synergy client for sharing a nearby mouse and keyboard with any Linux, MacOS or Windows machine that is part of your local network and acts as a Synergy server.

As usual, MorphOS 3.6 includes many more improvements and bug fixes. For a more complete list of all changes, please read our MorphOS 3.6 release notes.

We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.6 is available for download in our files section.

Mainactor developer gets into 3D Rendering

Many Amiga and former Amiga owners may remember a great program in the early 1990's called Main Actor Broadcast. It's development team recently got into the 3D Render/Animation software game and their first effort RaySupreme 3D looks very impressive. Get it from the Mac App store for only $39.99 or try a demo version from the link below.  Please note it's available for Linux, OS X and Windows.

Dawn, Dusk and Twilight

Famous brands have their ups and downs through their lifetime. The Amiga which once sold over seven million machines entered it's dark period when Commodore went bankrupt in 1994. It was a sad time but the Amiga survived. New ones are available today and they will have their shining moment in time at some point in the future. Customers have many choices and varieties of Amiga's and clones to choose from in 2013. Hopefully these can once again sell in large numbers like the Amiga did in the past. Aladdin4D got its start on the Amiga and will be updated at some point in the future to run on the latest ones.
